Acrylic, 22" x 28", 1994
The acrylic medium allows a working over to get very concise lines, edges, and spatail nuances into these variations. The curved shapes lend a feeling of freedom to an otherwise tight geometric format.

Gouache and watercolor, 11" x 15 1/2", 1994
These variations can be seen as sketches for large cut-out wall pieces, where the background yellow is the wall and the six variations are painted on shaped canvas to be hung individually.

Gouache 16" x 13 1/2", 1994
These are similiar to the last set of variations, being sketches for large wall pieces. The fact that the boxy shapes came to resemble the letters SI or IS, both of which have meaningful associations, is a happy accident.
